Serums

Serums Have Greater Anti-Aging Benefits the Longer You Use Them

Finding a good serum is akin to starting a long-term relationship—the real benefits come from sticking with your serum day in and day out. While you will likely see some improvements right away (as their antioxidant-rich formula soothes redness and brightens skin), over the long term you’ll see signs of damage fade and skin will look and feel healthier and firmer, too!

The Best Ways to Use Your Serum

Now that you know why serums are so beneficial (no matter your skin-care concern), we’ll share the best ways to use one in your routine!
Use your serum in your daytime and nighttime routine. You can’t have too many antioxidants in your routine—nor can you apply them too often. During the day, apply a thin layer of your serum under your broad-spectrum sunscreen to help repair skin and protect it from environmental damage (think UV exposure and air pollution). Then, apply your serum at night (slather it on if you like) to keep a good thing going!
There is no single "best" serum, so choose based upon your skin type and concerns. No matter how well formulated a serum, it isn’t right for you if it isn’t a match for your skin. For example, if you have oily or combination skin, look for a water-light serum that won’t feel heavy or greasy. Likewise, if you have dry skin, you’ll likely love a serum packed with antioxidant rich plant oils!
Apply your serum after your AHA or BHA exfoliant, but before your daytime or nighttime moisturizer. At night, you can even mix your serum directly into your moisturizer to save a step (don’t do this with your daytime moisturizer with SPF, as you don’t want to dilute your sunscreen).
What if you are using a prescription topical (like tretinoin or an anti-acne treatment)? No worries—serums will work well with any prescription treatment, and you can apply your serum before or after (experiment to see which order works best for your skin).
